A Community in Crisis
In June 2023, the residents of Rohini Sector 17 faced a dire situation. Their water supply, once clean and pure, had turned into a hazardous flow of muddy and foul-smelling sewer water. This alarming change led to a surge in illnesses among the community, exacerbating the conditions of those already unwell. One poignant case was that of a soldier battling cancer, whose health rapidly declined as he struggled with the contaminated water. Children and other residents also fell sick, unable to access the sanitary water essential for their well-being.
DNECF Steps In
Recognizing the gravity of the situation, Dianalds New Era Care Foundation (DNECF) swiftly took action. Understanding the urgent need for clean water, DNECF mobilized its resources and began a relentless campaign to address the issue. The foundation filed numerous complaints, rallying the support of the affected residents. Hundreds of signatures were collected, and the complaints were submitted to the Ward Councillor, the Jal Board, and even the local MLA. The director of DNECF personally visited the Jal Board several times to emphasize the severity of the crisis.
Uncovering the Root Cause
DNECF’s persistent efforts bore fruit when an executive engineer was dispatched to investigate the water pipeline network. The investigation revealed that the clean water pipelines, which intersected with sewer lines, were old and damaged, allowing sewer water to contaminate the clean supply. Armed with this crucial information, DNECF, in collaboration with the Delhi Government, initiated a comprehensive cleanup and repair operation.
Restoring Clean Water
The repair work involved replacing the old, damaged pipelines with new ones, ensuring a safe and clean water supply for the residents. This extensive process is still ongoing, but significant progress has been made. Many homes now have access to clean water once again, thanks to the unwavering dedication of DNECF.
A Beacon of Hope
DNECF’s intervention not only restored the water supply but also brought hope and relief to a community in distress. Their efforts exemplify the foundation’s commitment to being the voice of those who suffer in silence, advocating for their rights and well-being. As the repair work continues, DNECF remains vigilant, ensuring that the residents of Rohini Sector 17 can once again enjoy the basic necessity of clean water.
The Power of Community Action
Through this initiative, DNECF has demonstrated the power of community action and the impact of relentless advocacy. Their work serves as an inspiration, reminding us all of the importance of standing up for those in need and working together to create a healthier, safer environment for everyone.
